Our education team is integral to our sustainability journey; a group of passionate advocates behind our key initiatives, like increasing the location of recycling bins, adding helpful signage, moving to wooden or recycled materials and other day-to-day ideas that together, make a big difference.
This team work diligently to build sustainability into the fabric of our organisation, gamifying the education process through engaging quizzes and content.
Plastic Free July
In 2022, Deane launched its first Plastic Free July. The Plastic Team had a few key goals in mind, but the foremost was to build awareness across our teams about the impacts of plastic waste.
After a morning tea and briefing, our Plastic Champions kicked things off with rubbish audits across our Christchurch, Sydney and Auckland offices to gauge our consumption, and reduce this by the end of the month.
"It was great to see Plastic Free July being embraced across the business. It was disappointing not to achieve our goal of reducing single-use plastic in the canteen rubbish bins at all sites. However, it was heartening to see a significant change in people's behaviour around plastic usage and responsible disposal."
Jacqui Emslie, Territory Manager and Head of the Plastic Reduction Team.
On top of this, it was awesome to end the month with a donation to the Plastic Free Foundation, which are genuinely passionate about helping people around the globe limit their use of plastic.
“I just wanted to say thank you so much for the donation you made. We are a really small team with a huge job to do, and we were thrilled to receive your donation - you have truly made our day! It’s a big mission to reduce plastic waste, but we are making progress, and with support like yours there is much more we can do. So just wanted to share our joy and gratitude and say thank you for helping to make a difference.”
